Dragons, helio, snow and a record in the 7th edition of the 100 miles of Istria race

The 7th edition of 100 miles of Istria took place this weekend in Istria with 1.800 trailers participating the greatest spring trail event in the CEE region.

Nothing about this year’s edition of 100 miles of Istria was as expected. The winter unexpectedly returned to Istria the exact day of the 100 miles and 110km race, compelling the runners to climb mount Učka through snow.

In spite of harsh weather conditions, Kazufumi Ose the Japanese Dragon Ultra winner, finished the 100 miles race in 18 hours 38 minutes 58 seconds. He was followed by second Gregoire Curmer (FRA) with time of 18 hours 55 minutes 50 seconds, and third Luca Manfredi Negri (ITA) with time of 19 hours 30 minutes 37 seconds.

In the female competition, Katja Kegl Vencelj (SLO) came first with time of 23 hours 16 minutes 54 seconds followed by second Federica Boifava (ITA) with time of 24 hours 25 minutes 38 seconds and third Dariia Bodnar (UKR) with time of 24 hours 46 minutes 37 seconds.

The weather conditions also did not affect the fight for the podium in the other categories where seconds decided on the winners. In the 110km race of the male category, Aleš Sedlak (CZE) crossed the finish line in 11 hours 53 minutes 48 seconds while one second decided between the 2nd and 3rd position. The second position went to Aljoša Smolnikar (SLO) with time of 12 hours 21 minutes 11 seconds and third to Marin Mandekić (CRO) with time of 12 hours 21 minutes 12 seconds.

The first female finisher of 110km is Ingrid Nikolesić (CRO) with 14 hours 32 minutes 43 seconds, followed by second Aysen Solak (TUR) with time of 14 hours 50 minutes 06 seconds and third Ines Jozić (CRO) with time of 15hours 07 minutes 51 seconds.

Another tough category to win was the 67km course where the difference between the first and second is measured in seconds. The first was Matic Čačulovič (SLO) with time 05 hours 43 minutes 35 seconds, followed by Yury Shtankov (RUS) with time of 05 hours 44 minutes 36 seconds and third Donatello Rota (ITA) with time of 05 hours 47 minutes 29 seconds.

The first women to finish in the category of 67km was Marcela Mikulecká (CZE) with time of 7 hours 47 minutes 47 seconds followed by Anela Muhtarević (BIH) with time of 08 hours 03 minutes 38 seconds and Urška Šipec (SLO) with time of 08 hours 04 minutes 26 seconds.

An absolutely stunning record was given to the race by the fastest man on the 41km course, Helio Fumo from Portugal. At the end of the race, Helio commented the conversation between the runners during the race about the race being slower than last year. “There was only one thing to do to change it and it was to run faster” said Helio. The last record was 3hours 19 minutes and 35sec which Helio broke by more than 20 minutes. Helio’s record of the 41km course is 02 hours 55 minutes 19 seconds. The second Marjan Zupančić (SLO) crossed the finish line with time 03 hours 11 minutes 57 second followed by Andrei Ivanescu-Gliga (ROU) with time 03 hours 12 minutes 21 seconds.

First positioned women is Barbara Trunkelj (SLO) with time of 03 hours 26 minutes 19 seconds. Second is Zorana Težak (CRO) with time of 03 hours 53 minutes 58 seconds and third Antonia Mielers (GER) with time 03 hours 58 minutes 24 seconds.
